Hot Dang...It's The Fuelers

I recently witnessed Canberra's Fuelers bouncing around like Mexican jumping beans just before taking to the stage at Wintersun. What followed was a surreal mix of fast fiddle and slap bass country and honky tonk played on a stage straight out of a B grade western with cardboard cactus, boxes of dynamite and mandatory long horns.Nestled amongst the songs was a strange, rural sideshow including audience participation drinking games, cowboy style bingo (Deluxe Gringo) and 'The Wheel of Fate'.Their live show may have been full of gimmicks, but their debut CD 'Hot Dang' is just the opposite with an all original bunch of high grade country ditties. Some are built for speeding down the highway, such as 'Brown Bessy' and 'Jack Knife' featuring plenty of fiddle, mandolin and washboard, but the stand outs for me are the slower tracks 'Quick Way To Hell', 'Good Old Boys' and 'The Walrus'.These ranch dudes round up the CD with a couple of spaghetti western Instrumentals 'Caravan Trash' and the ZZ Top inspired 'Burrito Grease'. The Fuelers are hick right down to their pearl press studs, but have some fine writing talent to back them up.
